We currently track all of our Pre-Con in jobs. We have a seperate cost code "group" for precon which we can easily include or exclude from reporting. We have built it into our internal project budgets so we can see "actual margin" including that precon costs. Those costs do pull into the WIP as well so it is the project as a whole (start to finish). We feel that they should be included in project costs as good time spend in Pre-Con can definately make a project kickoff better. We use Procore and Sage 300 CRE.

Subject: Tracking precon time with or without project setup
Good morning all. At my previous employer we did not setup a job in our system until the contract was executed and the Accounting team would set it up. My current employer (we are all a learning group) wants the job set up before anything kicks off so they can track their precon time. I tried to set up a job for prospective clients and it did not turn out well. We are currently using Procore and Sage 100 Contractor (soon going to Acumatica) and ADP for our payroll/time entry. Could anyone chime in and give some useful tips for making this work so that it does not affect reporting. I wondered if I should just set up an ADP for the tracking but they want it setup for Procore linking as well.
Your feedback is much appreciated.
