I have a client who is a non-union, self-performing GC that has operations in California. They are in the process of implementing Rippling and currently brainstorming on how to capture travel pay at the time sheet level. Has anyone been able to build logic into Rippling's, or any other Time Capture system, to automatically calculate travel pay? Or are most folks having their field employees entering their travel time manually?
Some ideas include setting up a handful of travel time cost codes (i.e. Travel - Home Start, Travel - Between Job Sites, Travel - Warehouse, etc.) where employees could clock into a travel time cost code and based on what cost code they select, apply logic for pay amount. For instance, if they start at home and it takes 1.5 hrs to get to jobsite, we would pay them 0.5 hrs because the first hour is unpaid (normal commute), but if they travel between jobsites and it takes 1.5 hours, they get paid for 1.5 hrs.
I am open to any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance for everyone's time!
