Just curious how different companies apply rebate checks and dividend checks.  We currently apply, the checks to cash and add an entry to the respective G/L account where the payment was derived.  I'm considering making all checks received in the form of dividends and rebates be posted to a separate GL account "GM Other" therefore we can see what we generated in non-revenue GM $.  Is this a good idea or I am I complicating things?   just exploring a better way to handle cash receipts not associated with receivables.

We would still apply credit memos in the same fashion

G/L #'s are cheap.  I have one to track discounts I take on vendors.

I'd say created a new G/L #.  The more data you have, the better you can budget and forecast.
