Question: Does anyone charge "consumables" on your service invoices to clients? If you do, what would you consider consumable? I had always thought small items like rags, cleaning, etc. However, today someone asked if it could be for Workers Comp, Truck expenses, etc.

Most contracts define it as materials and supplies consumed fully in the work (slightly distinction from small tools, which are tools customarily owned by workers and consumed in the work). It could also be fuels and lubricants for vehicles and equipment, depending on how equipment is billed. It's not worker's comp, however.

We bake it into the hourly rate we charge.

We are a union firm, so lines 7 to 21 are public knowledge.  Line 30 is where I cover consumables.  Those numbers are before OH & Profit.

We do have a separate truck charge per service call.
