Hey everyone, I recently joined the CFMA Tampa chapter as a student member and wanted to introduce myself.
My background is on the operations side of commercial construction. I worked as an Assistant Project Manager for about 3.5 years, for a large contractor where I was responsible for overseeing project teams, coordinating directly with owners, architects, and engineers, and helping keep projects on track. A lot of my day to day was in Procore managing submittals, RFIs, subcontractor coordination, and general project flow.
While I wasn't on the accounting team, being close to the financial side of projects is what got me interested in moving in that direction.
The CEO I worked under recently retired due to health issues, which ultimately pushed me to make the transition I'd already been considering.
I'm currently mid-degree in Accounting and starting to explore entry-level roles on the accounting / project accounting / construction finance side here in the Tampa / St. Pete area.
If anyone here has made a similar move from project management into accounting, I'd be interested to hear how you got your foot in the door or anything you'd recommend focusing on early.
Appreciate any insight.
