We are GC performing work in multiple states.  As I'm sure many of you can concur, properly collecting and remitting sales tax is a huge challenge.

I am considering outsourcing this function.  We were approached by a company named Avalara.  Does anyone have any successful experience with this company or any other multi-state sales tax solution?

    Thanks!

    Morning Diana,

I was in a very similar situation a few years back, large GC in 32 different states.  It is practically impossible for any one person to keep track of multiple state sales tax statute changes that occur on a regular basis therefore I as you considered outsourcing the function.  I used a group out of Texas - State Tax Advisors http://www.statetaxadvisors.com/ and paid them a monthly fee which was around $1,200 month.  I would send them an extracted database from our software and they would prepare and send all of our monthly reports.  They also handled any correspondence with the tax authorities along with any audits required.  Money well spent if you ask me - less than $15,000 annually for peace of mind and reduced liability.  Compare that to the cost of a qualified FTE.  Best of luck, Give me a call if you need more information - (602) 390-6971
