How To Determine When A Construction Project Needs Scaffolding

One story houses are the easiest new building projects for most contractors. However, these simple projects rarely make up the bulk of a company’s business. The extra space of two, three or four stories helps families house children, grandparents and emergency guests. Some of these multi-story buildings can be tackled with reinforced ladders. Others need the safety and stability offered by well placed scaffolding. Use these tips to quickly determine if you should invest in an aluminum pipe and jack system for a specific construction job.

Above The Second Story

It is crucial to have scaffolding installed when the structure being built is three stories or taller, unless you are using a balloon framing method that leaves you with a sturdy floor before you begin the next level. Framing can be dangerous atop a long ladder. Scaffolding provides the much need space for materials and tools so your workers can complete the upper levels without having to travel up and down ladders to retrieve something new. Scaffolding speeds up the entire house building process by allowing teams to work on all stories of the house at the same time.

Structures that are covered with secure tarps also allow work to be carried out in inclement weather. This also greatly speeds up the building process, making your customers and workers happy. It can be good for the contractor and the workers to know that they will have steady work that isn’t interrupted by a rainstorm or blizzard.

Uneven Ground

Often an unfinished building site will have very rocky soil or uneven ground that hasn’t been graded yet to create smooth space for a yard or driveway. Scaffolding jacks can be adjusted to provide a flat space over difficult terrain. This isn’t available when working with most ladders. Adjusting the aluminum pump jack could save you hours of ground preparation if the soil is steady and packed, but still uneven.

Difficult Tasks

Applying a beautiful and artistic stucco finish to third floor exterior walls is tricky when your worker is also balancing on the top of a precarious ladder or walk board. Give them extra peace of mind and limit your chances of dealing with an on the job injury claim by giving them a steady place to stand while working. This is especially important for difficult or detail orientated tasks that require the full attention of the worker. The strong pipe supports of the pump jack scaffolding system allow your workers to lift up loads of bricks, paint or lumber with a block and tackle as well. With the right boards, a simple support system can provide every worker with a sturdy place to stand as they work on the upper floors.
