Note From Your CFMA Chapter President!

By Joel Van Egdom posted 07-06-2020 10:54

Greetings, Siouxland Chapter of CFMA!

I’m hoping everyone had an enjoyable 4th of July! With the arrival of July we have heat and humidity continuing in the Midwest and local baseball seasons in full swing. Over the first number of days of July, we have also seen COVID-19 case trends increasing in areas across the United States, and we ask that you continue to keep those impacted in your thoughts and prayers as individuals and businesses have been significantly impacted both in our local communities and around the world.

Many months have flown by since our local chapter last had the opportunity to meet in person. On April 1, we transitioned to a new CFMA fiscal year. With that new year, we also saw changes to our local chapter board. The new board officers are as follows:

          Joel Van Egdom (President)
          Scott Kelderman (Vice President)
          Dan Schelske (Secretary)
          Gene Thompson (Treasurer)

The additional members of the board of directors include Arin Gonseth, Brenda Moore, Dan Doyle, and Sean Mayer. We are thankful to Arin Gonseth for serving as President of our chapter for the past two years, and we are thankful for the years of service of Loren Ven Huizen, who retired from the board as of March 31. Thank you, Arin and Loren! With Loren’s retirement from the board, we are pleased to welcome Sean Mayer as the newest addition to the board of directors. Check out information on our board of directors on our website: https://cafe.cfma.org/siouxlandsiouxfallssd/officersdirectors

Due to COVID-19, we cancelled our March meeting and postponed our June meeting and golf event. However, we are currently planning to hold our July 22 meeting and golf event in just a couple weeks. We are pleased to have Erin Williams with Marsh and McLennan Agency, LLC present to us, as well as Emilee Gehling and Anthony Osborn, owners of the Gehling Osborn Law Firm. We already have quite a few teams registered for the golf event that afternoon and would encourage you to register and consider sponsorship opportunities as well. This year’s event marks our 10th golf tournament and offers a great opportunity to network and raise funds for scholarships in our industry!

We are also looking forward to our September quarterly meeting. At that event, we are planning to have nationally recognized speaker, James Benham, joining us. Please mark your calendars now for the afternoon of September 16…you won’t want to miss this exciting presentation on technology in construction!

As we navigate the impacts of COVID-19, I would like to thank all of our members for their renewals for the 2020-2021 membership year! We are thankful for your continued membership, and as a board of directors, we look forward to ensuring you continue to see a great return on your membership investment this year! At our July meeting, we are planning to draw for 5 - $50 gift cards for members who renewed on time for the new CFMA year.

As we look forward to the remainder of the 2020-2021 CFMA year, we face a lot of uncertainty with COVID-19, an economic recession, and an upcoming election. As a board of directors, we appreciate the opportunity to serve our great group of members as we navigate the uncertainty together! Thank you for engaging with CFMA and don’t hesitate to let us know how we can continue to improve in our service to you!
