We are an HVAC/Fire Protection contractor. I was wondering what you all use to do credit checks on new clients? We've used Dun & Bradstreet in the past and I thought they were pricey. Any suggestions would be appreciate.

We stopped sing D&B since most sub-contractors in our region do not report their results. We did have some success with liens and judgments. Instead, we use AIA A 305 form, as modified which when used properly will help you obtain much more information including the companies financial information.

I think D&B is probably the best tool, but they are pricey. We use Experian which gives us the most of the information we are looking for at 50 - 60% of the cost of D&B. Originally, I thought D&B would find a way to be more price competitive, but they seem to be sticking to their guns, so we continue to stay with Experian.
