We are a Vista user and are wondering what best practices are out there for companies comparing Projections on projects month to month. We are looking for an effective way to compare projected margin % on a project month over month and throughout the entire project.
We utilize PM Cost Projections for our PM's to submit their projections each month. We use the Projected Final Cost Variance column to compare the total project cost from the previous month. That column does not include any data on revenue or margin so we don't get the full picture on margin %.
For example: we could have an additional $80K in costs projected from the previous month, but it could be associated with a $100K Change Order and not have a negative impact on our margin %. But it would show an additional $80K in costs in the projected final cost variance column.
