Ashley,
We utilize broker trucking companies for a good portion of our work. Rather than utilize a subcontract, we developed a broker agreement. Essentially, it's a slimmed down subcontract agreement that stipulates insurance requirements, submittals, safety requirements and other pertinent items. I have my purchasing department reach out to prospective trucking companies on an ongoing basis and have them review and sign the agreement as well as submit insurance information so when we are ready to use these companies, there is very little to no paperwork involved to get them on the job site working. This system has worked well and cut down on administrative time to get new trucking companies on board, which happens often.

Subject: Trucking - Subcontract or Purchase Order
We have been having a bit of debate within our company on how we should handle trucking. Should trucking companies be treated like any vendor or should they be treated as a subcontractor? Should we use regular PO terms or subcontractor terms? All our subcontractors go through a more detailed approval processes that our vendors do not.
