The Talking Heavy section of the July issue of CFMA's Bottom Lines enewsletter featured an article written by CFMA members Cal Beyer and Kevin Shelton titled Maintaining Focus on Roadway Worker Protection: The National Work Zone MemorialThe purpose of the National Work Zone Memorial is to honor the lives lost in work zones to help make fatalities "real" to policymakers and drivers. The Memorial is inscribed with 1,602 names and honors the people who died in work zones, including work zone workers, motorists, pedestrians, law enforcement officers, public safety officials (i.e., firefighters and paramedics), and children.

The issue of roadway worker protection is a very serious issue for CFMA's Heavy Highway Committee and our members.  Each year names are added to the Memorial by family, friends, and former co-workers who submit them as well as through various state departments of transportation and other verifiable sources.  Click here for more information on how you can submit a name for inclusion on the Memorial.  The deadline for submissions is December 1st.
