Siouxland CFMA Chapter members and several guests enjoyed an excellent December Meeting and Annual Holiday Social on Thursday, December 3!
We kicked off the meeting with a bonus educational lunch presentation by Michael Vech and Dan LaRock from the SilverStone Group. They provided an overview of the Affordable Care Act 6055/6056 Reporting & Disclosure Rules, including walking through a number of specific examples to help attendees understand the practical application of the requirements on these new forms. During the session, attendees enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by CJ Callaway’s.
A brief social time followed the lunch before we moved into our afternoon program. The afternoon program was kicked off with a brief business meeting, including committee updates and the welcoming of several new members.
After the business meeting, our featured presenter, Anirban Basu, took the “stage”. Anirban is Chairman & CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc. and serves as the chief economist for the Associated Builders and Contractors and as the chief economic advisor for CFMA. Anirban provided an excellent and entertaining overview of the state of the economy through his presentation titled “The Pit and the Pendulum”. We were pleased to welcome Anirban to Sioux Falls through the use of our STAR Funds!
Following Anirban’s eoncomic presentation, we welcomed Joe Mahon with the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis to speak on the regional economic trends. Joe provided economic trends and predictions based both on modeling done by the Federal Reserve Bank for the Ninth District and based on survey responses from business operating in that Ninth District. The Ninth District covers Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and portions of both Wisconsin and Michigan.
Having taken in our fill of economic trends and forecasts, attendees moved to enjoying hors d’oeuvres and drinks during our annual holiday social. Attendees also participated in a “photo booth” with props demonstrating their Christmas wishes. Check out the complete album on our Facebook page!
