I'm looking for recommendations for Management Training Programs for my team.   I myself have not been given any opportunities for formal management training and this is something I would like to implement and maintain going forward.  Also any feedback on experience with in-person vs web based would be helpful.  Thank you!

    Hi Natalie,

Our team began down this road about 24 months ago, attacking it from several different angles depending on the level of leadership.  As such, I can relay the following experiences/recommendations in order of depth:

    - We are working with a local leadership development consultant who designed specifically for us based on our goals and values a fairly extensive leadership skills program from several different sources.  The program centers on servant leadership and emotional intelligence and sources include Rela's (relaleadership.com) CARE leadership series, Vital Smarts' (vitalsmarts.com) Crucial Conversations and Crucial Accountability and The Ken Blanchard Companies' (kenblanchard.com) Management Essentials and Situational Leadership, amongst others.  We are putting all management level personnel through the program and the feedback from our teammates has been incredible, noting that no one person has yet to complete the full program (it is a several year process/goal).
    - Our executive team began working with ILS - Integrated leadership Systems (integratedleader.com) early 2018.  This is both a personal and team experience, whereby we meet monthly with our coach in both one on one and team settings.  This has not only helped us grow our individual leadership skills (through personality assessment, teammate feedback and one on one coaching), but more importantly has allowed us to grow as an executive team in a number of ways (communication, trust, goal setting, strategic planning, etc.).  As mentioned above, this process was first undertaken by our executive team and has now been extended down to our next level of management.
    - Finally, I can't say enough about Chris McAlister, Sight Shift (sightshift.com) and Chris' book, Figure that Shift Out. If you or members of your team are looking for something truly transformational in how you lead, starting from the inside out, this is the place to start.  Working with Chris has allowed me to also exponentially capitalize on the skills being taught above.  At this point in time, I am our only team member to have "completed" one of Chris' programs, but based on my feedback, ownership and others have started another of his programs.  Chris and members of his team work both in individual and group/team settings.

All of the above have been completed in person, where interaction can occur, which I feel is paramount to development in this area.

If you have any questions or would like more information, I would be thrilled to discuss!

    I hope this helps,

AGC has some programs. Here's one: https://www.agc.org/learn/education-training/national-programs-events/advanced-management-program

You should also check with your local AGC chapter; they also have leadership and management programs.

    Hi Natalie,

I have worked with Bill and Joanne Truby (at a prior employer), and their program is very thorough.  They have worked with many companies all over the world and have a very diverse approach.  They offer in person training and an online program that allows your team to watch the videos and take evaluations when it works for their schedule.  The program allows for one person to collect the results of the evaluations and monitor the progress of those that are participating.  There is a free introduction video to the program that you can watch on his website https://trubyachievements.com/truby-management-system/

It's really all about the fit.  Bill and Joanne were a great fit for our company and they worked well with all of our employees.

    Hi Natalie,

I know John Killingsworth, a construction management professor at Colorado State University, has done a lot of training in the space for contractors, CFMA, and AGC. We had him come do a session for our CFMA chapter and it was terrific. We asked him to speak specifically on KPIs for contractors but I know he has trains on managerial accounting for contractors and project cash flow management. He's also doing work in analytics for contractors. If any of this sounds like a fit then you might reach out to him. His email is j.killingsworth@colostate.edu.

I am 3 quarters into a 1 year Intergral Leadership Program with Stagen, based out of Dallas. It is a 1 year program where you work with a class of about 20 people in various industries from across the country. You have a coach assigned and work in groups and with your coach through out the year to know yourself and your team better. It has been so worth it!. Once you have completed the class, you can teach an abbreviated version to your team. Let me know if you would like to hear more about it.
