  • 1.  How big is your accounting department?

    Good Morning!  I am looking to gather some information regarding the size of accounting departments in relation to revenue volume (and number of jobs).

    I work for a commercial GC with revenues in the neighborhood of $60mm each year - the number of jobs we do can range from 20-30 per year.  Our larger contracts are typically no more than $10mm, but we have jobs that are under $500,000 as well.

    We currently have an accounting department of three people - myself (Controller), and two individuals who are mainly in charge of payables and payroll.

    How large is your company?  And how big is your accounting department?  Also, if you're willing, can you tell me what each individual is responsible for?

    We're mainly a subcontractor and do about $60M / year.  We have myself (Controller) and 1 gal that does A/P and Payroll and let's say ½ of a guy who helps me out with the financials and the WIP each month.  How many employees do you have?  We have about 130.

    On average, we have about 100 employees (including field personnel, and we are a union contractor).  Can you tell me who does the billings each month?  Is this the job of the PM or someone in accounting?

    I work with the PM's on our billings each month.  Mainly they are coming up with how much to bill and I'm assisting with waivers, job cost reports, etc. 

     

    We also have about 15-20 jobs going at one time which can range from $50k to $10M.
