Now that you mention it, I have heard a bit about self-insurance captives, but I'm not sure our current premium level would be high enough to make it worthwhile. That said, they are only going one direction, up! Thanks Hunter, I'll bring it up with our agent before next renewal.

John that sounds like a really interesting solution! We're about 90 EEs and were with a partially self-funded plan (AllSavers) for 4 years. This year we moved to a health captive because it allows us to customize the plan and be more proactive. The two members we spoke to before we joined said they received 75% renewals, which prompted them to join.

Hi Kathy, we have roughly the same number of employees not covered under collective bargaining agreements and have been using an Aetna high deductible plan coupled with a product called the Difference Card from EB Employee Solutions, LLC. The Diff Card is a form of self-insurance where we reimburse employees for 50% of co-pays (POS doctor offices, pharmacies) and 75% of deductibles (direct deposit to employees bank accounts, no paperwork needed). You can tailor those reimbursement % to whatever you want. This has worked well for our relatively healthy group of employees and kept our Aetna premium increases consistently under 10%. Hope that helps; good luck. John

Our company is small specialty contractor in the Atlanta, GA area. We have only 25 employees. We want to offer health insurance to our employees but the rising costs are making this a difficult benefit to keep. Last year, we experienced an 80% increase in premiums. I would love to hear if others are experiencing these same kinds of increases and what alternatives you may have come up with.
Thanks.
