Yes, it is extremely common coverage and contractually required on many of our projects. This type of coverage normally protects a construction firm if it accidentally causes potential ground-water contamination due to fuel spills or handling of hazardous materials. Most policies would pay (after satisfying a deductible) for any necessary cleanup/remediation required to restore the property to its intended use.
Even though we do not seal engineered drawings, we carry a Professional Liability policy with $1MM/$2MM limits (mainly because we do some design-assist/design-build projects). Our professional liability policy has a rider for pollution coverage which allows for coverage up to the policy limits.

We are a residential framing and concrete contractor and we do not carry pollution coverage, however our agent said that it is fairly common for commercial mechanical contractors to carry this coverage.

Do any specialty subs carry this coverage? What are your thoughts on it? We have successfully had it removed from job requirements in the past. Our agent is recommending this coverage, but it seems very expensive for the risk.
