SAGE Timberline - Mobile Payroll Reporting

    Hello fellow CFMA members -

I recently interviewed for a new position at an organization (Union Shop with about 100 employees) that is currently using SAGE CRE 300 (Timberline), I didn't get the position but I am still going to try to assist.

During the interview process the interviewer stated that the management team was considering moving the payroll process to an outside payroll processing company.  The company wants to be able to report payroll remotely; I am not aware of any advantage to using an outside payroll processing service over an in house payroll system for this size and type of organization.

Because I am not as familiar with SAGE CRE 300 Timberline as I am with VIEWPOINT/VISTA, I am asking for my fellow CFMA members to enlighten me as to what other members are doing to report payroll (remotely) using SAGE CRE 300 Timberline.  I did find a product called hh2 Remote Payroll that claims to be a great fit with SAGE 300, and I know of other products such as EXAKTIME and ABOUTTIME that claim to be excellent fits as well.

Any and all insight is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Joe

    Hi Joe,

First, what an awesome guy!  Willing to help a company after an interview for a job you didn't get?  That's such a kind gesture.

We are currently undergoing the same process with Sage 300 CRE.  After speaking with our Sage consultant and poking around on the Discussion board here, HH2 seems like it is going to be the best fit for us.  We currently have a department demo today before we make the final decision.

Based on feedback from others, their website, the initial demo, and speaking with the sales rep, here's what I like most:

    1. Our Sage consultant said she has had successful implementation with other companies (which is great because it is essential that the payroll be able to sync with Sage).  This means our Sage consultant has the ability to sync HH2 to Sage.  And she said the companies that have used it like it, which is another huge plus!
    2. We are currently doing manual time sheets in excel.  Our guys in the field using Apple products have had issues with these manual time sheets.  The app from HH2 eliminates the PC vs. Mac software issues we've had.
    3. Supervisor sign-off.  We're typically working with a very small time period between employees preparing time sheets and the time we have to run payroll.  Sometimes we will have to circumvent supervisor approval in order to get the payroll processed.  It is only after the fact that we realize an employee submitted an incorrect time card and the time has to be edited or corrected on the next payrun.  HH2 allows time-sheets to go directly to a supervisor for approval which can be done very easily (at least in theory).
    4. Right now we're manually entering time from manual time sheets.  Alot of extra work.  Theoretically, the information from the time sheets should import directly into Sage.  This is going to save my department a TON of time!

Best of luck on your search for a solution!  I'm curious to see what others say as well.

    Thanks,

    Joe,

The 3 you mentioned (Hh2, AboutTime and Exaktime) all work with Sage 300CRE.  AboutTime and Hh2 are our top ISV choices.  However, Sage has a nice product, Sage Field Operations (SFO) that has a native integration and one of the cleanest mobile apps I have seen.

We use HH2.  The sync with Sage 300 CRE is great and the product itself is very cost effective.  We love it!

At a former company (a paint and drywall subcontractor) I worked for we implemented the HH2 software with our Sage 300 (Timberline).  The implementation went very well and our field employees adjusted quickly.  We had about 400 field employees and we imported time daily so we could see the daily production units.  The HH2 team were very responsive to any issues we had and it worked well with Timberline.  This was over 10 years ago that I worked there and I am sure that there have been many improvements to the software since then, but I would highly recommend it.

We looked at a LOT of packages and finally thought WorkMax, the cloud version of About Time, was the user-friendliest and had the most functionality we saw.  We're about to pull the trigger.

Any big users out there using Workmax and can give us some input on the change over?

    Joe,

From our experience clients see huge savings both in time and money by implementing an outside payroll service. This is especially true for a service that can combine all parts of the Payroll and HR workflows.

We also use Sage 300 and already use a paperless time keeping system (not one I would recommend).  We're considering outsourcing our payroll.  Has anyone found a payroll service provider that can integrate well with Sage 300?

    Lynn,

Several considerations - if you have a large payroll certainly you will want to explore outsourcing PR.  Two that i know can work are ADP and Paychex.  But, both require considerable time implementing and maintaining.  I have clients that have a few as 100 to 1,000's using both.  let me know if you have specific questions.  Good luck

Not that I know of.  Sage is working with several, but still in the Development Stage.  I'll reach out and see if Sage has a recommendation
