Internship Committee


The Accounting Internship Committee builds student awareness of careers in our profession through summer jobs and links with area universities. The premier activity is CFMA's Accounting Intern Program which enables students to gain relevant industry experience by providing subsidies and guidance to construction employers.

Mission Statement

The Mission of the CFMA Intern Committee is to provide incentives to construction industry employers to help prepare students to be responsible, competent and ethical financial leaders in the construction industry by offering internship opportunities.

Activities and Tasks

    • Committee meetings
      • 2 On Location
        • November / December – kick off
        • March – select winners/assign mentors for the summer
      • 5 Phone Conferences
    • Events (Shared amongst all committee members)
      • February – announcement at Chapter meeting RE application deadline
      • July/August – Visit one to two of the interns on location.Present plaque to employer; take pictures for promotional purposes; 30 min interview with employer and intern detailing intern responsibilities and employer feedback.Invite intern to either golf outing or September Chapter Meeting
      • Late May/Early June (after all interns have started) – Host the intern only basics class and champion an intern only social outing (two half day events held on the same day)
      • August Golf Outing Dinner – 5 min presentation on intern committee; award presentation
      • September Chapter Meeting – Final award presentation (if necessary)
    • Tasks (Shared amongst all committee members)
      • Update information to be posted on the website RE Application and Submission Deadlines
      • 5-10 phone calls to encourage participation in the program (if applicable)
      • Update e-blast information (4-5 e-blasts per season)
      • Update slides for golf outing presentation (Deb has done in the past)
      • As Mentor:
        • Monthly communication with recipient company
        • On-site visit (see events above)
        • Follow up to obtain feedback letters from recipient company and intern before award is presented
