About Us

October 2021 Update

Fellow Philadelphia CFMA Members-

I wanted to reach out to let you know some of the things our chapter is currently working on for our members. The programming committee has been very busy trying to schedule out events that will be beneficial and safe to attend for our members and prospective members. It has been a struggle this year with rules, policies, and everchanging situations regarding getting people together. As we head into the Fall we have some in person events on the lookahead schedule as well as continuing with some virtual events which have been very well attended.

The 31st Annual Barbara Mosteller Golf Outing is next Monday October 25th at Manufacturers Golf Club.  We still have some spots available as well as hole sponsorship opportunities. Please click here for more information.

I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event either in person or online. Please also keep on the lookout for a new Mentoring program provided as a benefit to our Chapter Members. We currently are forming a committee to develop a formal mentoring program to match up members who would like the opportunity to be paired up with other chapter members to help to share ideas and provide some insight. If you have an interest in being a part of this program when it becomes available as either a mentor or mentee, please let me know.

CFMA is still running our 12+ membership incentive. If you know of anyone that would benefit from being a member please send them our information. If you join now, your membership will be good all the way through March of 2023. So now is a great time to capture a few extra months of membership for the price of 1 year. Visit CFMA 12+ Membership to learn more.

Thank You all for your support in the CFMA Philadelphia chapter and we look forward to being able to continue to provide the best resource in our area for Construction Financial Professionals.

Matt McCloskey, CCIFP

President, CFMA Philadelphia Chapter

Dear Fellow CFMA Philadelphia Chapter Members,

It is an honor to have been elected President of the Philadelphia Chapter of the CFMA.  This unique organization was established in 1983 to bring construction financial professionals together to share ideas, educate fellow members, and to provide a support network for each other.  I am proud to say that there are currently over 200 members in the Philadelphia Chapter and over 8,000 members nationally.  The Philadelphia Chapter has always taken pride in offering quality educational and networking opportunities to our members as well as the local construction community.

Today is a much different time than it was just 3 months ago prior to the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic.  Much like every business is adapting to the new norm, the Philadelphia Chapter has, and will continue to transform to provide the best support for our members.  As an example, we have been providing free educational webinars to help our general, associate, and prospective members gain helpful insights as they navigate through this unpredictable time.  CFMA Philadelphia Chapter will continue to modify and support the construction community.

I feel that the greatest growth one can have is spending time outside of their comfort zone.  Most of us are in that kind of situation right now in the middle of this worldwide pandemic.  It is what we do now, how we challenge ourselves, coworkers, and our staff that will help us to not only survive, but to prevail and come out of this stronger than ever before.  This is the time to optimize how we work, what we do, and how we lead.

I would like to send out a very special thanks to Jim McGettigan, CFMA Philadelphia’s Immediate Past President, and all exiting board members.  Jim and his board have set the bar very high for us for the next 2 years.  I would also like to thank everyone who has volunteered to be on the board for the 2020/2021 fiscal year and look forward to working with you all as we grow and learn together.  Lastly, I would like to thank Allan Myers for the opportunities they have provided for me and the flexibility to allow me to donate time to the CFMA Organization.

The CFMA Philadelphia Chapter will continue to be the best resource for construction financial managers and their business partners, just like we have been doing for the last 37 years.

Thank You,

Matt McCloskey, CCIFP

In January and February of this year, not many people knew of or were concerned about something called the “coronavirus”. Flash forward three months and our lives and our businesses will never be the same again. We all know what “social distancing” is now and that “PPE” does not always mean “property, plant and equipment” (except to us accountants). The world turned upside down so how do we react to it?

It’s been hard for a lot of people and businesses to adapt, but adapt we must. I’ll admit that I prefer not to work from home. To me it’s just easier and more convenient to work in the office except that in the coronavirus world, convenience means little. So I’m adapting to Zoom meetings or phone calls instead of going to a client’s office or talking face-to-face to the people I work with. Our last CFMA meeting in March seems like a year ago but we’ve adapted to having webinars which have been received very well. We really hope that we will be able to have in-person meetings soon but in the interim we have to adapt.

When I became chapter president in April 2018, I was following in a long line of very talented people who preceded me. I’ve tried to learn from all of them which has helped me to adapt. We all have different ways of doing things and I’m grateful to know and learn from them. I’m especially grateful to my immediate predecessor, Joe Buckley, for his advice and guidance and for his help with the Mid-Atlantic Conference that our chapter was the host of last September. Joe and I both have daughters so we consider what we went through planning the conference as a dry run for when it comes time to plan a wedding!

During the last two years the chapter held some very good educational sessions and we had a really great time celebrating the chapter’s 35th anniversary at the Museum of the American Revolution. We continued to meet new people and see folks who have become long-time friends. That’s the best part of the chapter, staying in touch with people who you have come to know and respect over the years. As we go forward in the brave, new world, here’s hoping we will have the opportunity to be together again.

To my successor, Matt McCloskey, I’m sure when he agreed to take over the president’s role he didn’t think the chapter would not be able to hold meetings or go to a Phillies game or maybe not have the golf outing. But I’m confident Matt will adapt and the chapter will adapt. After all, it’s the only thing we can do.

Thank you to my Board, you all are professionals and dedicated to making the chapter better. I also want to say a very big thank you to Andrea Bower, who is the chapter’s association manager. There is a lot of behind the scenes work that is involved in making the chapter operate and Andrea and her staff do a great job.

I sincerely hope to see everyone in person soon. Take care everyone.
