1.  Vista's new annual billing process

Posted 3 days ago
Viewpoint is going from monthly billing to annual billing and requiring we sign a new contract with a specified annual price increase.   Does anyone else have concern's about software companies forcing you into new contracts?   This is the second software company we've dealt  with who have required we sign a new contract. with a higher cost.     I guess we as consumers don't have any recourse?

Thoughts?

I agree and did not like the change either as it is a large amount of money to pay upfront. However, our annual 5% increase was scheduled for April 2018, by converting to an annual renewal we were able to postpone the price increase until January 2019.  This saved us about $1,000.

Agreed.  The fees are hard enough to swallow on a monthly basis, but when I'm cutting a check now for the full shot in advance of the service being provided, it makes it all the more unpalatable.  Asking for the full shot up front is a thinly veiled price increase.  Viewpoint as I used to know it is slowly but consistently disappearing.  It's disheartening, for sure.  Unfortunately, our IT Manager tells me this is the way the entire software industry is going.  Don't you all wish we could bill 100% for our services before we ever set foot on the job-site!?!?

I agree with Michael, Viewpoint is changing and not for the better in my opinion. We have been a Viewpoint customer since 2008 and we have always been one of their biggest advocates. However, this latest money grab is so wrong. I complained to everyone who would listen to no avail. Our only voice is in forums like this. There will be economic downturns in the future where the software companies will be glad to have customers and won't be able to change the rules in the middle of the game.

I came from a company where our annual maintenance fees were paid in advance to the change to monthly installments for Viewpoint was different for me. When my IT Director shared that they were changing to the upfront model I had him push back. We proposed a transition year, moved to quarterly billings and will be able to budget the following year from a cash standpoint knowing the full upfront model.

Never hurts to push back even if it only helps for a year.

Let us know what the response is; we'd like to propose a similar payment structure. Thanks!

I was extremely disappointed when I got news of this change a few months ago.  I opted to wait until 01/01/18 to implement and haven't decided yet to go with three year renewal or take it year to year.  Pala has been on Viewpoint since 2008 and also see services decline.  I told them that I really don't want to change ERP systems, but I may have to start researching other options.

Thanks,
Gay

Centurion has been a Viewpoint customer since 2008 and the experience has been similar to what Kerry Sloan noted. During Viewpoint's initial call the representative stated they were converting to an annual billing period but there would be no other changes. In subsequent communication it became clear a new Agreement and Terms were required. We pushed back but ultimately after in house counsel review agreed to it. If this was truly only a change in billing period an Amendment to the existing agreements would have been more than sufficient. I spent 15 years in software before these last 20 in construction. We offered an annual prepayment option and provided a 15% discount but never forced it.

We've been with Viewpoint since 2009 and I agree that it was a surprise to all of a sudden be faced with the annual billing instead of the monthly. When we were contacted we were given the option of converting right away and it did result in about a 10% savings versus what we would've been paying on the previous monthly amount. To me it's painful either way but if I can save something by converting to the annual, at least that helps a little. I think most software companies are moving to this format.

Hi Paul,

Just to be clear, you were given a 10% discount for paying your annual premium instead of monthly?

Thanks!
