1.  Electronic Log Software for trucks

We have been reviewing several electronic formats for the new mandated CDL logs.  I'm wondering what companies are currently using for CDL logs and if they will be compliant in December?  Or if anyone could give us some recommendations?

Hi Tracy

We are a railroad contractor with multiple vehicles under IRP/IFTA so we are looking too.  We are looking at Keep Truckin (as it has the IFTA capability as well) and Teletrac currently. Some of our drivers currently use the Smartphone app for Keep Truckin to record their hours (as it's free) and because they only require an annual contract, we are leaning towards them for the full elog/IFTA reporting.  I would be interested to hear what others are out there as well though before we commit.

We signed a 60 day trial with ELDS yesterday. We looked at several other companies, Keep Truckin being one of them. One of our problems is our small fleet size, only two mandated vehicles. Some of the larger companies don't want to deal with small fleets in construction companies. One of the draws to sign with ELDS was their location. They are in Brentwood, TN, just south of Nashville, an area we have current & past projects located  in.

I personally cannot contribute to this thread, but my husband runs a trucking co and logistics brokerage firm, and he provided the following input:

"Truly it depends on the operation you're running CDL drivers. If you're a construction company with short mileage radius and spotty drive time intervals...I would suggest the new division that AT&T has...

If you're running a true freight, cross-country, operation with multiple states...I suggest Teletrac...based out of CA. They were a true startup a few years ago, and now they've integrated the business from GPS tracking to ELD mandates that log HOS, and all mileage reporting for IFTA/IRP. It makes the whole process much easier when doing the quarterly reports. It's completely web-based and updates with changing regulations automatically. The database is kept on a secure cloud... I'm not sure what else more to add about it, but I'm happy to present a demonstration to whoever would want it. "

Hope that helps. Feel free to reach out to me via email and I can connect you for further info.

AT&T is not currently listed on the FMCSA's website as having an approved (self-certified) device.  I image AT&T is working on certification (and it probably will happen before the Dec 2017 deadline), but for other solutions make sure yours is compliant.

Hello All!

We are an excavating company and do a lot of hauling.  We run a small fleet of 7 dump trucks daily on average.  All of our forms were on paper and we've looked into a lot of fleetmatic type software.  I've developed an app and have designed forms for the app that we use for our truck logs in order to stay compliant with DOT.  Our employees love it and I've linked it back to our mechanic (as well as owners) so he's also informed when their trucks are in need of oil change, etc.  Let me know if you're interested and I'd be happy to give a demo.  Thanks!

We are in the process of researching different programs, with the anticipation of going online next year. I would be interested in seeing what you have designed.
