1.  CMiC Software - transitioning from existing system(s) - Feedback

Posted 17 days ago
We are in the early stages of a system wide software review (currently use multiple vendors for different aspects of our processes (i.e. One Vendor for Job Costing/Financial reporting/Payroll/AR,  another for CRM system, third for Field Time entry, fourth for Equipment Maintenance, etc.  Are looking to possibly consolidate and streamline our software packages and have had some early discussions with CMiC Software.  Am interested in hearing of any input from other members who may have transitioned from Sage CRE300/Timberline to CMiC or other platforms to CMiC.  We operate both as GC and Subcontractor, have union and non-union payroll.

Thank you.

2.  RE: CMiC Software - transitioning from existing system(s) - Feedback

Hello, we use CMiC and are very disappointed with their month end reporting. The system does not have a standard report that compares budget to cost through a certain month. When we requested it, the cost was $15k. If you choose Cmic be sure to include a lot of money for report customization. Other customers I've spoken to states they spend $100k per year on reports and customization.

The payroll module also lacks basic necessities and is very buggy.

We have used it for less than a year and are already replacing it.

From my experience, Viewpoint has been the strongest. It's very flexible and has good controls.

Best of luck!

Regarding month end financials, we use FMW as suggested by CMiC.  We have custom created all of our statements, financial reports, TB and will be working towards creating dashboards as well.

You may want to invest in this software as we have found to be very beneficial.

We went live after a 2 years in the development and training phase.  CMiC is what you are willing to invest in it via time, continuous training, developing your own customized procedures etc.  We are limited in the IT staff area and have utilized both CMiC and Palmer to create specialized reports but have now brought on our own programmer to accomplish this necessary function for our continued development and growth at a much more reasonable cost.

We have champions that specialize in each area.  I would suggest also creating the position of Project Analyst so that you have someone that is auditing each project setup/job setup, financial status of each project, monitoring the close out process and verifying the correct final close of each job.

Some modules are still a challenge for us but we are looking forward to the ADF platform which we will be converting to later on this year.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do with the software or migrating another.  For the investment we made, however, this is not an option for us and we have found more pros that cons overall.
