1.  Project scheduling software

Posted 05-17-2017 16:34

I'm trying to help out our Project Management team and reach out to see if anybody has any suggestions for project scheduling software that is on the low end and is fairly simple. They would like for it to help with projects that are relatively short in length (4-5 month project timelines are what they are wanting to manage with this).

Some preferred features would include available job templates, the ability to track project milestones and Gantt charts / bar charts. It does not need any of the bells and whistles of programs like P6 or Primavera (I'm probably getting some information about names wrong here, I'm trying to type out what I remember our Construction Manager telling me). As far as pricing, they would like to keep it around $200-$300 per license with no recurring software maintenance - they just want to buy it and own it (yes, I'm aware of the standard 18-20% software maintenance for most things, but I told them I would ask). They want to be able to install it on every Project Manager & Project Engineer's computer.

We do appreciate everyone's suggestions and input. Personally I have no experience with this kind of program, but any input from you or your team is welcomed. Thanks in advance!

Seth,

The one I am familiar with that is fairly common is MicroSoft Project. It's typically used on smaller, shorter duration project that don't have stringent contractual scheduling requirements.

Good luck,

I would recommend MS Project as well. It is relatively inexpensive in comparison to Primavera and if your users are familiar with other MS Office programs, they should pick up on this program pretty quickly.

Hi Seth,
It sounds like you are looking for Microsoft Projects. It is fairly user friendly without all of the bells & whistles. Good luck!
