SSRS vs. Power BI

  • 1.  SSRS vs. Power BI

We recently hired a database specialist and he has learned the basics of Crystal Report writing. We are now looking at converting our reports over to SSRS, however we have heard some chatter that the industry / Microsoft is slowing moving towards Power BI and now we are wondering if it's worth our time training our new specialist on SSRS or should we just shift our focus to Power BI. Any thoughts, comments or suggestions would be highly appreciated.

    Hi Christopher,
We specialize in Power BI, SSRS, and Crystal reports development for all accounting systems, as well as business intelligence tools.  You can see our suite of tools on our website (www.prospectionbi.com).

If you're looking for data visualization, Power BI is a great tool.  If you're looking for data analytics SSRS, CR, or Excel would be tools to use.  Please let me know if you'd like to continue the conversation.  I'd be happy to talk more.

    Cheers,
    Tuong

Understanding the roles of each product and their strengths and weaknesses will answer this question.
I'd recommend reading these two articles:

Microsoft offers three tools for reporting: Power BI, SSRS Paginated, and SSRS Mobile. Each offers pros and cons. While there are plenty of articles that talk about costs, let's look at Power BI vs SSRS Paginated vs SSRS Mobile and how they work together.

It's 2018, and aside from the debate on the semantics of the words 'BI' vs 'Analytics', tools have started to stabilize a bit in terms of their vision and execution. Gartner released their yearly magic quadrant for analytics tools, and we at Aptitive found no major surprises.
