Project Management Software

By James Gunter posted 05-22-2015 11:59

We are a GC and are looking to replace our current project management software (Expedition) because it soon will not be supported.  We are trying to come up with the top three project management softwares.  If you were to make a list of the top three, what would you list?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

One thing that you may want to take into consideration is what estimating software you are using. That can make a big difference. Also, are you wanting the software to do only PM, or accounting as well?
I've had top of the line software that ended up being a dead anchor, because it was difficult to get everyone on board. I've also seen excel and off-the-shelf software do wonders for those with limited budgets, and the right people behind it.
From a GC perspective, I would get behind Viewpoint if your budget allows, or Foundation. From a sub-perspective, I like Textura and Paskr, and struggle to navigate Procore. Once again, the issue behind Procore, could be the GC itself.

We were on Sage Timberline for accounting only and recently (1.5 years ago) converted to Viewpoint as an ERP solution. I think the key starting out in which SW to look at is how you fit within their client base. We are a mid-sized GC and have an I.T. department of one. Some of the larger SW companies assume that you have a 10+ person I.T. department for their customer service and technical people to work with. We needed something that the users could get help from. Plus VP has great training resources as well.
I have had bad experiences with modules that rely on import/exports to run against the GL and other modules so I wanted a solution that is all one database by all one vendor. We also made the decision to have the SW hosted on the cloud instead of on our internal servers. If something doesn't work it's VPs issue, not ours. Upgrades don't clash, etc.

We have this same issue. We are looking at Procore as well. Any feedback would be great.
Thank you,

We use Autodesk's Constructware and have been for about six years. It is decent but once Autodesk bought it they stopped investing in it. We are currently looking at Procore
